First Snowmaking of the Year!

Hooray, we finally we able to make snow. I say "finally" but this is actually the earliest we have ever been able to do so...but a long summer just made it seem like it took forever to get here. We made snow for about 2 hours and then goofed off on our snowboards for a few minutes.

Snowmaking Begins This Week!

Yes, the gods have finally smiled upon Second Nature Snowmaking HQ. Both Thursday and Friday morning this week will be cold enough for us to blow the first snow of the season! We are hoping to make snow on a small hill a few miles away so we can get a few kids together and break out the snowboards and skis for the first time this year as well.

Look for pics and vids later this week from all the festivities!

A-Basin & Loveland...Let the Snowmaking Race Begin

Arapahoe Basin has joined the race now with Loveland Ski Area and they are now head to head again this year to see who can be the first to make enough snow to get the lifts turning.

Check out the latest pics of Arapahoe Basin's efforts on their snapshot page or their webcam.

Loveland Has Begun Making Snow!

Yes friends, it is true, the snowmaking seasons has begun...albeit above 10,000 feet. Last night Loveland Ski Area in Colorado fired up the guns to gear up for one of their ridiculously early openings once again.

If all goes as planned they should open up during the first week or two of October with a base of about 15". To check out the webcam of their guns in action (or at least the resulting snow at the point), visit the link below.

Before and After Slideshow

One of my favorite things about home snowmaking is the classic before and after shot. Nowhere is the difference more stark and obvious than with home snowmaking! Here is a little highlight reel of a few before and after shots we actually remembered to take during our snowmaking adventrues last year.

The Loveland Snowmaking Countdown Has Begun!

Loveland Ski Area near Georgetown Colorado is famous for ridiculously early openings...usually within the first two weeks of October. And how do they do it? Snowmaking. They use a combination of traditional air/water guns with Lenko fan guns to open a good sized run down the right side of their mountain.

The countdown has begun again...they plan on starting their snowmaking efforts in just 22 days on September 24th! Snowmaking season is nearly upon us friends!

Special Thank you to All Second Nature Snowmakers!

I just wanted to give a special thank you to everyone that has helped make Second Nature Snowmaking a success! Four years ago I took my passion for snowmaking and created the first, affordable line of home snowmaking equipment in the world. Now, hundreds and hundreds of snowmaking enthusiasts have been able to give their families the gift of snow when they wouldn't have been able to afford it beforehand.

This business really is a dream come true. I love snowmaking and I love helping other get started in this fun, exciting hobby. Just yesterday a friend asked me about my business and I bubbled over with enthusiasm as I told her how exciting it is the first time I make snow each year...anxiously waiting by the thermometer for the temperatures to drop low enough to start blowing snow (p.s. just 2.5 months till snowmaking season!).

The '08-'09 season is shaping up to be a great one and I look forward to helping even more people get started in the greatest hobby in the world...home snowmaking!
